Functional NFTs — The next generation of NFTs
The next generation of NFTs will be functional. Meaning, they will have functions which can be executed by their owners. The functional “Lucky Hamster Syndicate” NFTs will allow you to interact with a digital representation of a real-world marble race inside the metaverse as a 3d hamster.
A hamster conquers the hearts of the cryptospace — again. The DAO dubbed “Mia & the Marbles” (MtM) had the seemingly insane but innovative idea to use a hamster to create real-world randomness while streaming it live on the internet (Cointelegraph reported). Why? To make internet gambling as transparent and fair as possible. It’s widely known that randomly generated digital numbers aren’t actually random nor is it easily verifiable by a 2nd party whether the number was picked in a fair manner. Which is why traditionally gamblers had to trust their online provider not to generate the numbers in a way that benefits them. By using a real-world hamster (Mia) the DAO behind MtM brought real-world randomness into the digital world and persisted it on the blockchain. This allows for a fair, transparent and trust-less gambling experience.
If this was not crazy enough: Now they want to disrupt the NFT space with their “functional NFTs”. With their ambitious plan to digitalize the hamster cage and the marble race track, mirroring any activity in real-time they want to conquer the metaverse.
In the future, whoever owns a Lucky Hamster Syndicate (LHS) NFT will be allowed to access the digital twin of Mia’s cage within the metaverse in real-time, watching the marble race live while rooting for their favourite marble. Using Augmented Reality, the metaverse viewers will be visualized directly within the livestream on MtM, hence becoming a part of the marble race.
The DAO behind MtM thinks that functional NFTs will be the next generation of NFTs. Instead of a simple static JPG the NFT will be alive, featuring one or more functions which may be coupled to the real world. Each owner of a functional NFT can exercise certain functions, in the case of LHS even control things in the real world. At LHS the functional NFTs additionally represent lucky charms that increase the profits by an individual factor in case of a winning bet. And as if this wasn’t enough, they will even allow for voting on animal charities as well as upcoming marble race track extensions, controlling the skycam that records the race and, last but not least, the participation in special member-only events.
